‘Anchorman’ actor David Kochner arrested for DUI after failing field sobriety test in Ohio

Actor David Kochner, perhaps best known for his role as Ron Burgundy’s (Will Ferrell) sidekick champ Kind in the Anchorman films, was arrested on DUI charges. ohio in early June.

An officer already at the scene said Kochner, a California resident, was showing up at a Comic-Con in West Virginia.

‘Oh my god, you can smell it from here,’ the officer said as he got into Koener’s car.

Kochner said he was driving from the airport in Cincinnati to West Virginia and remembered the specific stops he made before he pulled over.

When asked how much he needed to drink, he replied succinctly: ‘One.’

The officer responded by asking what he meant by one and Kochner said ‘a beer.’

They were then asked to get out of the vehicle and were asked a series of questions. He replied ‘no’ whether he was wearing contact lenses, was on any medication, had previously suffered a head injury.

His only answer was ‘yes’ when asked if he was in ‘relatively’ good health.

The soldier began to give Kochner his field sobriety test using the tip of the pen.

He was then asked to return to the police car, where he was ‘arrested for driving while impaired.’

In Ohio a DUI is technically known as an OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired). If convicted, he faces three days to six months in prison, a $1,000 fine, and 500 hours of community service, in addition to a drivers’ intervention program.

Kochner joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1995, along with some of his Second City comedians Nancy Walls and Adam McKay.

While he lasted only one season on SNL, he would star as sports reporter champ Kind in the 2004 hit comedy Anchorman alongside Mackey and his SNL partner Will Ferrell, which further fueled his career.

Kochner has had a recurring role as Bill Lewis on ABC’s The Goldbergs since 2015.

He split from his wife of more than 20 years, Leigh Kochner, in 2020.

No reason for the divorce was revealed, but the couple has five children together, Charlie, Sargent, Audrey, Margot, and Eve.
