An outbreak of COVID-19 was declared in Strathroy, Ont. Hospital Unit – London |

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) in southwestern Ontario working with a COVID-19 the outbreak.

In a release, SMGH said that the Middlesex-London Health Unit declared the outbreak On Monday after three patients tested positive at the 1 South (Medical) Patient Unit.

It added that patients and their families have been contacted, and staff and physicians in contact are being informed.

Contact tracing and testing are also being done for staff and doctors.

“The unit is now limited in its ability to receive admission until further notice,” the release said. “In addition, visitors and essential care providers are no longer allowed to visit the unit with exceptions being provided for palliative care patients.”

Unit-level outbreaks for COVID-19 are declared when there are two or more confirmed positive cases among patients or staff that can be acquired at an inpatient unit.

If there are no new cases after 10 days, the outbreak is declared over at the unit level.
