Aman Gulia and Sagar Jaglan are India’s new World Cadet champions

Young wrestlers Aman Gulia and Sagar Jaglan on Tuesday emerged as the new world champions in their respective categories as India put up a stellar performance on the second day of the Cadet World Championships.

Gulia emerged victorious in the 48kg final with a 5-2 win over American Luke Joseph Lilledahl, while Jaglan defeated James Mockler Rowley 4-0 in the 80kg summit clash.

Sahil won the bronze medal in 110kg by defeating Alikhan Kusainov of Kazakhstan in the first two minutes.

Adding to India’s success, Jaskaran Singh defeated Abdulrahman Ibrahimov of Azerbaijan 6-2 in the semi-finals to secure a silver medal in the 60kg category.

Gulia conceded only three points on the way to the title.

The American, being tall, had better reach but Aman adjusted his game well and kept attacking his opponent.

Aman took a 3-0 lead when Luke took a take down to reduce the lead, but the Indian wrestler came up with his own take down move to pull off.

Jaglan’s defense was strong as he did not let the American make any offensive moves and scored points with pushouts.

Vaibhav Patil lost his bronze medal in the play-off 5-7 to Javid Javedov of Azerbaijan in 55kg. Sahil (110kg) will also fight for the bronze.

Jaskaran Singh will face Uzbekistan’s Kamronbek Kadmov for gold on Wednesday while Chirag (51kg) and Jaideep (71kg) will fight for bronze.
