A look back at some of Hollywood’s biggest on-set tragedies after the Alec Baldwin prop gun accident

Behind the glamour, the filming of Hollywood movies is extremely dangerous.

This was brought into sharp focus by the tragic death Thursday of photography director Halyana Hutchins, when she was hit by a prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin on set in New Mexico.

After a projectile was fired from a prop weapon, it is unclear how empty cartridges could have taken away the lethal fragments.

The tragedy has grim echoes of the blank phase of actor Brandon Lee’s death on the set of the 1993 film The Crow.

Lee, a rising star and son of renowned martial artist Bruce Lee, was killed when a dummy round was used instead of a blank round during a fight scene. It struck his stomach with as much force as a live goal.

Stunt doubles are often used for the most dangerous action, putting their lives on the line for the perfect shot.

But film sets, which often include explosive or aerial scenes, are dangerous for everyone.

Here MailOnline recounts some of the worst tragedies that happened on set:
