6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes northeast region including Assam and Mizoram

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the northeast region, including Assam and Mizoram, in the early hours of Friday, the National Seismology Department said.

So far there is no report of any loss of life or damage to property.

According to the data shared by the department, the epicenter of the quake was near Mizoram, near the Myanmar border.

It was recorded at 5.15 am at a depth of 35 km, the data showed.

Tremors were felt at many places in Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura.

The Northeast region is located in a high seismic zone, which causes frequent earthquakes in the region. An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Assam and parts of the region on April 28. PTI
