49ers’ Brock Purdy receives praise for keeping his faith in the picture ahead of NFC title

The Rev. Franklin Graham, CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, was the latest person to congratulate Purdy after his win. dallas cowboys and noted his openness about his faith in God and Jesus Christ.

“They are now just one game away from the Super Bowl! In addition to being a super talented football player, I love the fact that Brock Purdy is very open about his faith in Jesus Christ,” Graham wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. Huh.” stating that he was rooting for the 49ers to win the Super Bowl.

In the days before the Cowboys game, Purdy explained to reporters how he was trying to stay in the moment amid all the attention swirling around him and his team.

“It’s football, man,” Purdy said Thursday. “I try not to make it more than it is. I’m a faith-based person, so that’s how I stay grounded. I don’t look at football like it’s literally everything. Don’t (do) it or die or something like that.

“It’s a sport and it’s definitely my job and I take it very seriously, but at the end of the day, I know I’m not defined as a person by winning or losing, like I am by that.” I’m not. I’m not just a quarterback. I wasn’t born just to be a quarterback and play football, and that’s it. Like I have a life and all that.

“And I remember that, but at the same time, I’m a competitor. I love competing. I want to win at all costs and so, I’m enjoying that too, so that’s where I am.” That’s how I stay grounded with all of this, but I’m definitely thankful and blessed to be here.

“You go out there, prepare as best you can, you get better in practice every day, and once you get your opportunity, it’s ‘what are you going to do with it?’ For me, I believe in God, and I trust him. I just go out there, and I just play,” he said.

Purdy also opened sports spectrum in 2021 about their faith. He said at Iowa State that he asked God to forgive him for putting his love of the game ahead of their relationship with God.

“It was just a great reminder of where my identity is, where it is,” he said. “And it’s in Jesus. And I continue to rely on that. Then again, the next day I didn’t go out and throw for 500 yards and it was fantastic quarterback, but it was just this peace that I got from him.” I was together, knowing, ‘Hey, whatever I face going forward during college football, God and Jesus are going to be my hallmarks. I’ve got a great foundation in them.’
