Three doctors were allegedly assaulted by the family of a patient after a newborn baby died during a caesarean operation at a private hospital in north west Delhi’s Pitampura. The police gave this information on Thursday.
He said the family members of the detained patient alleged that the child died due to “negligence of doctors”.
It was learned that a 26-year-old pregnant woman resident of Rani Bagh was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday.
A senior police officer said that due to some complications, doctors performed a C-section of the woman, but even after that the baby was born dead.
Angered by this, some family members of the woman quarreled with the doctors and assaulted them, alleging the child’s death, the official said.
Footage of the incident showed a group of people abusing and assaulting a doctor.
Police said the child’s body was later sent to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem.
He said that one of the doctors has lodged a police complaint against the patient’s family for assaulting the doctors and causing damage to the hospital.
He said that the MLC (Medico-Legal Case) report of three doctors found their injuries to be of simple nature.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Usha Rangnani said that based on the doctor’s complaint and the MLC, sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (carried out by several persons in furtherance of normalcy) work) was registered. Intention) of the IPC.
