17,336 new COVID-19 cases reported in India, highest daily increase in 4 months

According to the Union Health Ministry, India on Friday registered a one-day increase of over 17,000 fresh Covid-19 cases after a gap of four months (124 days), registering a 30 per cent increase in daily cases.

According to the data, a total of 17,336 coronavirus cases were reported during 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 4,33,62,294, while the death toll from the disease has gone up to 5,24,954 with 13 new deaths. Shown updated by ministry at 8 pm.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.32 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 3.07 percent.

The number of active cases has risen to 88,284, comprising 0.2 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has been recorded at 98.59 per cent.

The data shows that the active caseload has registered an increase of 4,294 cases in the 24-hour period.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 4,27,49,056, while the case fatality rate has been recorded at 1.21 per cent.

According to the ministry, 196.77 crore doses of the vaccine have been given so far in the country under the nationwide vaccination campaign.

Thirteen new people died due to the disease in the country – seven from Kerala, two from Punjab, and one each from Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
