The threat of foreign influence on our government and foreign money infiltrating our elections has been a concern in the United States since the very beginning of our constitutional republic. In Federalist 68, Alexander Hamilton described corruption as “one of the deadly adversaries of republican government … primarily from the desire of foreign powers to achieve an undue ascendancy in our councils.”
This is one reason why the US Constitution allows only natural-born US citizens to hold the office of presidency. This is also one reason why it is illegal for candidates for federal office to accept campaign contributions from foreign nationals.

That being said, ever since President Barack Obama falsely attacked the US Supreme Court for its decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission during his 2010 State of the Union address, the Left has been knowingly about the ensuing flood of corporate Telling tall tales money that will surely take over our election system.

Obama’s big lie about Citizens United created a chain reaction of lies among liberal activists and their political allies that still resonate in the mainstream media today. According to a report by watchdog Open Secrets, the scare tactics of President Obama and the Left are baseless. The report, which analyzed the impact of Citizen United’s decision on the eve of its 10-year anniversary, found that “despite fears that elections will be dominated by corporations, the biggest political players are actually the wealthy individual donors.. Major corporations did not take full advantage of their new political powers. Corporations have accounted for no more than a tenth of independent groups’ fundraising in each election cycle since the ruling.

Despite these non-partisan findings, leftists continue to perpetuate their core lies about Citizens United. Just last month, former Clinton Labor Secretary and University of California, Berkeley professor Robert Reich wrote an op-ed that said, “The Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission opened the door. Allows foreigners to influence US elections through their investments in politically active US corporations.”

As stated earlier, it was false then and it is false now. Leftists are calculating ruthlessly and by mistake nothing is done. So, what’s the rationale for his latest fake anti-citizenship United push?
Perhaps we’re seeing the latest version of Democrats “accusing the other side of what we’re doing” because they need to distract from reality.

Examples of the Democrat Foreign Campaign’s cash misappropriation are hardly new. As the former principal investigator of the US House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight during the Clinton administration, I had a front row seat that tracks wire transfers from foreign interests across Asia—including Communist China—that ended up in the bank. Accounts of straw donors for the Democrat National Committee and the 1996 Clinton re-election campaign.
