10 new night shelters built in Panchkula

The falling mercury in Panchkula has prompted district officials to come out and set up 10 additional night shelters, which they say will be able to accommodate 150 people at a time.

On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik held a meeting with the officials of the civic body and reviewed the housing arrangements, including night shelters, in the district to help the destitute people survive the severe cold.

During the meeting, Kaushik told the police department that if they find someone sleeping under the open sky during night patrol, they should immediately ensure that the person is shifted to the nearest night shelter set up by the administration. . Porta cabins have also been arranged in the night shelters, in which mattresses, quilts, pillows and bathroom facilities are provided to the people.

The District Health Department has also been directed to deploy teams to investigate the people living in these shelters. Kaushik said that the health teams along with a team of doctors would visit the shelters during the night and examine the people living in the night shelters.

As per the details, a night shelter with a capacity to accommodate 40 persons has been set up at Sector 5 Bus Stand. Apart from this, other shelters have been built near the traffic light point in Sector 8, near Labor Chowk at Majri Chowk on Yamunanagar Road and near the bus stand in Saketri.
